Eco-Responsability

An Eco-Friendly Show

These measures raise the awareness of solutions for reducing the environmentalimpact among everyone involved—employees, suppliers, volunteers, spectators, etc.The Bagotville International Air Show 2017 (BIAS17) will be the most environmentally responsible air show ever presented in North America and possibly the world. To achieve this goal, BIAS has devised a series of measures to compensate for the greenhouse gases produced, recover recyclables and reduce waste.

Greenhouse gases

As part of an agreement with the UQAC’s Carbone boréal program, the air show will offset the more than 250 tonnes of greenhouse gases that will be generated over the BIAS weekend by aircraft, organizers’ vehicles and STS shuttles. This constitutes an investment of just over $7,000 for BIAS.

Waste recovery, recycling and reduction

In line with efforts that began in 2013, BIAS will be setting up a system to recover all recyclable materials over the course of the weekend, thanks to an agreement with Euréko and the support of Fonds AES.

Based on experiences in previous years, organizers are certain the formula will make it possible to recover the vast majority of recyclable materials on site.

Carbone boréal

Carbone Boréal is both a program for offsetting greenhouse gas emissions by planting trees and a research project led by researchers at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi. Organizations and individuals who so wish may take part in this innovative project. Each contributor to the project offsets their GHG emissions by planting trees while directly funding university research on carbon sequestration. The project consists of establishing research plantations in cooperation with the Quebec Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, in locations that are suitable for new forests (bare or degraded forested areas, unproductive farmland, etc.) within the limits of what the ecosystems and their biodiversity can support. The Carbone Boréal project was audited by an independent third party in 2011 in accordance with the ISO 14064-2 standard. The Carbone Boréal Web site offers user-friendly online emissions offsetting.

Eurêko

An event of the size of the SAIB inevitably affects the environment, especially in terms of waste and greenhouse gas production. That’s why the organizers have enlisted the help of EURÊKO! since 2013 to help reduce the ecological footprint of the event through responsible waste management. Source reduction, reuse and recovery are priorities when planning and holding the event.
